Welcome to FotoToscana

My wife and I have a passion for what Tuscans call "la dolce vita"...the sweet life. It all began eleven or twelve years ago when our first trip to Italy (a group tour) gave us our first glimpse of Tuscany. We knew we would return.

After a few months of internet research we bought the airline tickets, rented a car and began what can now be best described as a "love affair with Tuscany". Like its great wines, Tuscany has aged beautifully from the Etruscan culture, through the days of the Roman Empire, and the Renaissance.
Early in our travels, we stayed at Casa Bellavista, a simply fantastic bed and breakfast with an ideal location for touring Tuscany. There, Simonetta (who manages the B & B) and her husband Guido gave us our first insights into the Tuscan life, a life that is rich with tradition and customs.

With Simonetta's guidance we have visited the small hill towns of the Val d`Orcia including Pienza, San Quirico and Montepulciano. We have enjoyed daytrips to Florence, Arezzo, Cortona and Siena as well as villages of the Chianti Region such as Vertine and Volpaia and we've visited many villages in the Val di Chiana.

As much as we have enjoyed the history and cultural aspects of this marvelous region, our real joy is in the friendship developed over the years with Simonetta and Guido and what they have taught us about Tuscan life. We have learned to make pasta and gnocchi around the large marble table at Casa Bellavista, shopped at the weekly markets in Cortona and Camucia to buy fresh produce for the evening's dinner and we've helped select fresh bread when the bakery truck stops at the back door. We have also learned that it is important to pause and "take the coffee" and we learned that it is a good thing to enjoy a two hour conversation over a relaxed evening meal.

We are grateful to our Tuscan friends for sharing their friendship and for helping us to know the joy of a life lived to its fullest.

Please enjoy the slideshows as you take a trip through Tuscany. Take time to read the blogs about cooking and travelling. And feel free to drop us a note and share your thoughts about Tuscany and our website.
